2012 Pre-Season Newsletter

Welcome to the 2012 Season  It’s time once again to register for the 2012 Brookline season. We remind everyone to check the website for information as there are still events/off-season practice opportunities that are taking placed or still being planned and you can stay on top of everything by checking online.

Registration for 2012   Every year several families are too late with their registration and teams had already been chosen and some children were closed out. So please register right now!!!  If you’re late, there’s a late fee in addition to the possibility that you might be too late!! Note the early registration deadline (January 28) for guaranteed spots. Late fees apply after that including the lifting of the family maximum.  To encourage timely registration, we will again conduct two fee-rebate drawings on Opening Day. A winner will come from those who register by mail by Jan. 14 (two chances to win!!) and a second from everyone registered by Jan 21. Walk-in registration also takes place at Chatham Park Elementary School on Sat. Jan. 21 and Jan. 28 from 2 - 4 PM.

Registration Fees Unchanged  Despite a rise in expenses and some large-scale planned improvements, registration fees again remain unchanged for the sixth consecutive year. League fees are among the lowest in the area because of careful management and hard work by the Brookline Board. In addition, the success of the Brookline Snack Shack has added revenue that helps to keep fees low so please be ready to volunteer to work in the Shack when you can. Besides, most folks find it fun!!!!!

New 4 Year Old Knee-High League Offered for First Time  Brookline will be offering a program for 4 yr. olds for the first time. The format will have the youngsters playing only once per week at Chatham Park on Saturday mornings. We look forward to this change.

Prep League for 8 Yr. Old Boys   After a successful first season of splitting the 7 and 8 yr. old boys into separate leagues, we will again continue the format of the 7’s hitting off the machine while the 8’s will begin the season off the machine and gradually work up to 3 innings of boy-pitch. Pitching clinics will be offered for all interested 8’s starting at the beginning of the season. Only boys who have completed the clinics will be allowed to pitch in the games. We are excited with the success of this change in format.

No Child Ever Turned Away Because of Money   If your family is struggling due to tough economic times, please talk with a Brookline Board member. We will never let money prevent a child from playing with us.

Pre-Season Opportunity for Girls 9-12   Please check our website for additional information.

Winter Batting Program for Boys   We also expect to have indoor winter batting at Haverford College. Again, information will be posted on the website.

Evaluation Day for All Boys and Girls in Prep, Minor, and Major Leagues   The annual Evaluation Day for Prep Boys (8 yr. olds), Minor and Major Boys is now going to include Minor and Major Girls. This will take place at Haverford College Fieldhouse on Sat. March 3rd. An e-mail alert will be sent to all eligible players as the time draws closer. But please put the date on your calendar.  Good evaluations of the boys and girls has helped to create teams that are more even in talent so please do everything you can to be there.
